Choosing a beautiful diamond can seem like a daunting task. I’d like to share with you the 4 qualitys that are most important when choosing a diamond. Which will help us on the path to choosing your perfect gem.
Diamonds reflect and refract light creating rainbows bringing its unquie character to life. This is fashioed by the 4Cs working harmoniously to create the perfect storm.
The quality of a diamond is determined by the 4Cs, Colour, Cut, Clarity and Carat.
Colour - the scale starts at D however these are very rar and most diamonds available are nearly colourless or with tints of yellow or brown. Coloured diamonds come in a myriad of colours. The colour is created interstitial impurities or structural defects. These diamonds are can be slightly more reasonable in cost. An exception to this are Pink or blue and red diamonds are the rarest and most expensive.
Cut - The brilliances of a diamond is created by cut and how light reflects and refracts around the shape. The more precise the cut the more alive the stone becomes with rainbows and sparkle.
Clarity - Diamonds are created deep under the Earth with tremendous heat and pressure. The heat and pressure create imperfections such as marks and black dots called birthmarks, inclusions or characteristic; here less is more!
Carat - A diamond’s weight is measured by the metric “carat” it is defined as 200 milligrams. Each carat is subdivided into 100 points therefore 0.5ct is half a carat.
