Jewellery Care

Keep Safe

Handmade with care and we know you’re going to want to keep it looking great. So here are some tips to help you do just that. Storing your jewellery properly is important. To avoid damage, store your jewellery separately from each other to minimise scratching and tangling. All of Jodie’s pieces come in their own beautiful box so you can keep them safe.

Silver

At Jodie Coulthard we use 925 sterling silver. Silver can tarnish over time so we recommend keeping silver in a pouch or sealed bag. Wearing your silver regularly helps to keep it from tarnishing but if it starts to look dull use a silver polishing cloth to keep it looking fabulous.

Don’t dare wear it in a bath or pool! We know it’s fun looking glamorous all the time but this can accelerate oxidising to the point where your silver can appear black.

You are always welcome to contact Jodie if you feel it’s looking a little tired and arrange a clean and polish.

Gold

Good news, investing in solid gold jewellery means that it is far less prone to wear and tear.

Gold is tough stuff and can handle being worn every day. You can use a mild jewellery cleaner and polishing cloth to bring out the shine in your solid gold. Regular cleaning will help keep it looking as good as new.

Gemstones

The world of gemstones is so vast that Jodie will give you individual information on your chosen gemstones. If you would like to do some reading on gemstones the Gemological Institute website is the best place to start https://www.gia.edu/

GIA Mohs scale of gemstone Hardness = resistance to scratches and abrasions. Diamonds being the toughest.

Diamonds are the hardest stones but don’t be fooled by everything that you hear. As tough as they are, they can still be chipped and shattered. Watch out when you are doing rough activities and don’t let your precious diamonds anywhere near bleach.

You can soak diamonds overnight in a very diluted formula of an eco glass cleaner, then give them a little brush with a babies toothbrush. Shine them up with a lint free cloth and they are ready to sparkle again.

Check your jewellery settings regularly to ensure your diamonds are still secure. Please get in touch if you hear a rattle or see any movement.

If you have an old Diamond that is a little rough around the edges and needs some rejuvenation we can always take a look and see what is possible. You never know it could have a whole new life.
